Dear Sandy and Gary, I am very sad to hear about your mom, “Rue” to us girls. I have so many wonderful memories of her.She was like an aunt to me growing up with you. I loved her cooking too. I can still hear her voice getting after you both. The almost daily phone calls between our moms are etched into my memory. It seems like those two gabbed for hours about who knows what. I am pretty sure many of those phone calls were to commiserate over the latest hare brained ideas we kids pulled that day.

Your mom was a loyal friend of my mom. When my mom lay dying, your mom,as well as Goldie and Eli, was by her bedside every day.

I live in Florida am unable to come to see you during Shiva. But please know my heart is with you. With Love, Bonnie Battet Slade

    Dear Sandy and Gary,
I too am so sad to learn of your Mom’s passing. She was an ever present figure in our lives as we grew up, and as Bonnie says, like an aunt. There were times when I remember going over to your house to ‘escape’ the homefront, afterall, it was more fun over at your place. :). The threesome, your Mom, Goldie, and our Mom, were the inseparable ones, since girl scouts, and I have always been impressed how devoted they were to each other. I was so appreciative that both your Mom and Goldie and Eli were with our Mom as she was failing, and regret my physical distance, in not being able to be there for Rue, and the two of you.
Please know my caring heart is with you. I hope to see you or hear from you sometime soon. Love, Laurie Batter

    Dear Sandy and Gary,
I was surprised to hear of Rue passing. I last spoke with Sandy and Mom trying to help get her some help in the house after surgery. I have many fond memories of all of you. Especially the very close relationship between Rue, Mommy and Goldie for so many years. My hope is that you have been here and that she didn’t suffer. I am sorry not to make Shiva but I have some comp[lications from surgery, However, you are both in my heart.
With much love, Niki Batter Dobbs

Ruth was a very self contained person and it took me awhile to get to know her well. She was a great friend, easy to talk to,and always”down to earth”. she valued her privacy as well as others. She was a great woman. I will miss her.
