Lillian Lear Newman, a long time resident of New Haven passed away Jan. 9, 2013 of complications due to Parkinson’s disease. A 1936 graduate of Hillhouse High School, who subsequently earned her honors BA in Psychology at Radcliffe College (Harvard University). As a distinguished member of the class of 1940, she served as president of the Radcliffe College Club for many years. The beloved daughter of Ida and Maxwell Lear, MD, who was a 1911 graduate of Yale College and 1923 graduate of the Yale Medical School where he remained a clinical professor of surgery. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Dr. Harry R. Newman, founder and first chairman of the department of urology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and clinical professor of urology at Yale University and sisters Pearl Levin and Norma Hayes. Her Legacy of love and devotion is shared by her children Nancy Ellen Feldman of Fairfield, Robert Lear Newman of Toronto, Canada and Suzanne Mary Newman of Wellington, FL. She will be sorely missed by her adoring granddaughters Deborah Cott Messulam, Allison Cott Peyton, their respective spouses Derek and John and great grandchildren Max, Daniel, Caroline and Scott.
Graveside funeral service at the Mishkan Israel Cemetery, Jewell St., New Haven, Sunday afternoon at 2. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation.
