Wayne S. Markman

Wayne S. Markman, 62, of Cheshire, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the St. Raphael’s Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital.  He is survived by his wife Irene, his daughter Karen Newburg and her husband Nate Newburg, his daughter Sara Markman, and his son Elliot Markman.  Wayne was born on January 29, 1952 to the late Harold and Eleanor Markman. He is also survived by his siblings Michael Markman and his wife Edith, Hillary Strackbein and her husband Jeff, and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces. Wayne will be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind, generous spirit. He loved to make people laugh. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and shared his love of sports with his son, Elliot. He loved a great meal, whether it was a clam pizza from Pepe’s or a steak at Abe and Louie’s after a Sox game. Wayne also loved all kinds of music and loved sharing it with his family. He especially enjoyed singing and dancing to embarrass his children. He took great joy in giving back to his community, especially at the Jewish Community Center and Hamden Hall Country Day School, where his two daughters graduated and his son is in ninth grade. Wayne was always “Mr. Fix-It.”  He never found a gadget he couldn’t fix and took great satisfaction in learning how things worked.  He was the owner of Markman TV in Hamden, CT for over 30 years and a leader in the National Electronics Service Dealers Association (NESDA), where he served in a variety of positions, including President, and was the recipient of multiple awards, including the Gerry M. McCann CET/CSM, EHF Memorial Award and two time recipient of the Richard Mildenberger Outstanding NESDA Officer Award.  As a tribute to his wit and oratory skills, he was repeatedly requested to serve as Master of Ceremonies at the NESDA Annual Awards Banquet.  Wayne also developed many Technical and Business Training Programs, which he presented at state and local conferences across the country, earning respect, admiration, and multiple honorary memberships, awards, and commendations from his peers.  In 2012, Wayne, CET/CSM/MST/CSR, was inducted into the Consumer Electronics Industry Hall of Fame.

Funeral Service at Temple Beth David, 3 Main St., Cheshire, CT, Sunday afternoon at 3: pm. The interment will be in the Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, 166 Wallingford Rd., Cheshire. Period of mourning will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Hall Country Day School, 1108 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT 06517 or to the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven, 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525.

    Dear Irene and family,
I am so saddened to read of your loss. Wayne was one of my favorite people and favorite tennis partners. I am sorry that I cannot be with you this week, as I am in FL for the winter. I will certainly make a contribution in his name within the next few days. I know that you have the support of the entire Jewish community, especially the jocks with whom Wayne played sports for so many years.

Irene and Elliott and family –

We always really just loved Wayne as we do all of you – so gentle, so generous, and who can not like anyone who loves pizza and baseball as much as he did. We will be there Sunday – and please know we are thinking of you. With Godspeed.

    Dear Irene and family,
Wayne was a very big mentor in my life. I would have never love electronics, ESDA and NESDA as much as I do if it weren’t for Wayne’s guidance, knowledge and humor. He is a very loved man and will be greatly missed. Your family is in my thoughts.

Dear Irene, Karen & Nate, Sara and Elliot,
I love reading the stories about Wayne here.
No words can express our love for you all and the sorrow we feel over the loss of this great man. He was an example to all of us, for he lived a life for others and gained pure pleasure from it. He knew the secret of life…loving and giving to others. I always looked up to him and considered his opinion the benchmark on virtually any subject. Few people are as intelligent, without arrogance and as giving without measure. This is truly a great loss for all of you and for us along with you. I feel certain Wayne will make every effort to let us know he is near because it was clear he did not want to leave you.
Our thoughts and prayers and love are with you now and forever…
Mary & Bob, Catherine, Patrick & Brendan

Wayne was a remarkable human being and I will always treasure the time we had together over the course of our lives. You were all so very lucky to have such a generous, loving husband and father. He was possibly the most sweet-natured individual I have ever known… and you all were the greatest joy in his life.

I send you all my love.

I was shocked to hear about Wayne’s passing. I haven’t seen Wayne in many, many years but remember him for his wit and kindness. As a kid, our families Wayne’s, The Markmans and mine, Fran and Jack Levy were dear friends- Its probably been 45 years or more since we interacted but his genuine kindness, pure wit and wonderful smile can never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to your family. Charlie remembers playing basketball at the old JCC against Wayne and Wayne always told Helen to “get a taller and better basketball playing boyfriend”. He will truly be missed-

Robert and I were deeply saddened to hear of Wayne’s passing. I will always remember the good laughs we enjoyed when Wayne would drop Elliot off at school. He always joined us for coffee and sometimes for birthday muffins. These fun times eventually turned into what we called the “breakfast club”. Wayne was such a warmhearted and caring man who will be missed by all. Your are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Wayne, I met Wayne at the JCC and he was always on my team along with Bruce Jacobs, Jack Keyes, John Champion, and Brian Fischer. I would see him now and again around like at Everybody’s I don’t know if you remember Eliot you were with him. He was a wonderful guy who could make you laugh so easily. I use to stop in the place on state st. if I was looking for some sarcastic humor. He was just a good man who shared it with everyone he knew. Irene,Karen,Sarah, and Eliot my heart goes out to you all and will always remember you all and Wayne in my prayers. It is so hard even at this terrible time to say his name without a smile crossing my face
