    As a teacher at Amity High School, I knew Sam in and out of the classroom. Most of my interactions with him were through the Amity Rugby Club. I will remember him as a fun loving and dedicated player who made everyone around him smile. He will be missed.

    Sam was in my English class two years in a row at Amity High School. I so enjoyed watching him mature into a confident and creative young man with such a positive spirit. His writing reflected his unique perspective on the world and his sense of humor. I’m glad to have known him and so sorry for your loss.

    Do not stand at my grave and weep
    I am not there. I do not sleep.
    I am a thousand winds that blow.
    I am the diamond glints on snow.
    I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
    I am the gentle autumn rain.
    When you awaken in the morning’s hush
    I am the swift uplifting rush
    Of quiet birds in circled flight.
    I am the soft stars that shine at night.
    Do not stand at my grave and cry;
    I am not there. I did not die.

    Sam, I am so blessed to have known you. Our time in the classrooms of Amity Middle School was filled with joy and smiles and learning and trust and believing in good and better things. You gave that to me, and I thank you. While your years were brief, you did much for many. The night sky has another very bright star, lighting the way for us. To Michael and Tanya and Dan, my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Go out tonight and find that star. It is Sam – forever lighting your lives.
