Edwin Greenberg

Edwin Greenberg, born May 3, 1924 to Anna and Joseph Greenberg of New Haven, passed away May 8, 2018. A 1942 graduate of Hillhouse, Edwin was the first member of his family to attend college, entering the University of Connecticut in 1942. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps in 1943, was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned to UConn and
completed his B.S. in Business Administration in 1948. He married D’Vora Johnson of New Haven also in 1948, then purchased, owned, and for the following 20 years operated Allen’s Cut Rate Perfumers, then additionally Caroll Cut Rate, in 1962, in Bridgeport. In 1968 Edwin closed his businesses and began a new career as a stockbroker with Blair & Co. in Westport, later with Wood Walker in New Haven, finally with Yale University in their securities accounting department. Edwin left Yale when he was offered and accepted the position of comptroller for Cramer and Lindell Engineers in Essex, a position  he held until his retirement in 1994. After the passing of his wife D’Vora, Edwin married Eileen Leibovitz of New Haven. Together they enjoyed 37 years of great happiness. Always an avid photographer, Ed dabbled in every medium, from motion pictures to polaroids to digital. He was also a collector of fine art, and spent many vacations perusing art galleries, adding to his collection. Edwin is survived by his wife Eileen of Hamden, his son Paul Greenberg (Alison) of Milford, his daughters Barbara Brumberger (Bruce) of Cheshire, and Wendy Schulman (Jed) of Simsbury, as well as stepson Peter Leibovitz (Paula) of Southington, and stepdaughter Susan Leibovitz Larson of Encinitas, CA. The deceased also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. Shiva will be observed at the home of Barbara and Bruce Brumberger, 320 Sorghum Mill Dr., in Cheshire, on May 17 from 7 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edwin’s name to the National MS Society, CT Chapter.

We were very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. He was a good friend and college for many years. Ed is in a better place now. We will miss him very much.
