Vivian Milstone

Vivian Kaufman Milstone of Leeder Hill Drive in Hamden, formerly of Hall St in New Haven, died on Oct 21, 2010.  Vivian was born March 15, 1913 in Carteret, New Jersey and was raised in Elizabeth. She graduated from New Jersey College for Women with a BS in chemistry in 1933, and worked in laboratories at Merck, the Rockefeller Institute, and with her husband at Yale University.  She was active in numerous book groups and civic organizations, including Hadassah, the League of Women Voters, and Recording for the Blind until shortly before her death.  She was the daughter of Nathan David and Jennie Kaufman.  She was predeceased by four siblings and by her husband of 36 years, Jacob Haskell Milstone.  She was a consistently positive force in the lives of nearly everyone she knew, and is survived by her children Leonard (Ellen) and Alan Milstone, grandchildren Jenya (Steven) Waxmonsky and Aaron (Amy) Milstone, great-grandchildren Lily and Jonah Milstone, and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 1PM Friday, October 22, 2010 at Congregation Mishkan Israel, 785 Ridge Road, Hamden, CT. The interment will be in the Mishkan Israel Cemetery, Jewell St., New Haven. A period of mourning will be observed at 94 Blake Rd, Hamden, CT. from Saturday evening through Monday.  Contributions in her memory may be made to Recording for the Blind or Hadassah.
