I was so deeply saddened to see the obituary notice in the NYTimes today. Patricia was a major and indeed pioneering figure in the immigration field, especially in the study of gender and migration, and a much-valued colleague and friend. She has left an important legacy behind in her writings. For my own part, I feel fortunate to have worked with her on a number of projects — and to have learned from her.

With great sympathy and warm wishes, Nancy Foner

To Gilbert and Matthew Eric Pessar,
I was so surprised and deeply saddened to read the obiturary notice in the New Haven Register today. I met you all when Patricia was coming to Yale and I helped you in the sale of your house in Woodbridge That was such a happy time. I’m certain Patricia will surely be missed at Yale University by her many colleagues, her students, her friends and her family.
    With deepest sympathy,
    Sheila Saltzman

Patricia will always be one of the bright memories of my experience in New Haven. She was so stunningly kind. When I spoke to her, I found myself taking mental notes, thinking about what kind of scholar I wanted to be and, more importantly, what kind of person I should be. Please just give a call if there’s anything at all I can do. Katherine
