Cecille Vivian Soybel Rudnick

Cecille Vivian Soybel Rudnick passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2022.

Vivian was born in New Haven on December 13, 1919 and was a lifelong resident of New Haven/Hamden.  Vivian graduated from Hillhouse and attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs.  After her freshman year at UCONN, Vivian’s mom was ill and Vivian chose to stay in New Haven to take care of her.

During that time, she went on a date with Harold Rudnick, fell in love, and married him in February 1942.  For the next 80 years Vivian remained devoted to her ever expanding family, her parents, her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, her in-laws, her nieces and nephews, and her children’s friends.  Up until the end, Vivian still wanted to know if anyone needed anything and if she could do anything for them.

Vivian’s parents Joseph Soybel and Miriam Soybel and her brother Milton Soybel predeceased her.  The love of her life, Harold, also predeceased her after 73 years of marriage in 2015.  Vivian is survived by her children Barbara Glass, Ellen Rudnick (Paul Earle), Marjorie Rogers (Steven Rogers), and Jane Rudnick, and her grandchildren Alexandra Glass, Oliver Glass, Maxim Glass, Noah Pettit and Sarah Schimmel (David Schimmel), and her great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Vivian is already missed by those who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Mount Sinai Cemetery on Jewel Street in New Haven at 1:00 p.m.

Donations in memory of Vivian may be made to the Jewish Cemetery Association of Greater New Haven (JCAGNH), 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge, CT. 06525; Temple Beth Shalom, 1809 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT. 06517; or Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund c/o Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge, CT. 06525.
