Ester (Shutan) Weiner, age 93, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She is survived by a brother, David Shutan and his wife Irma of Boynton Beach, FL; two daughters; Roberta Weiner of Glastonbury, and Janis Schmalzbach and her husband Jonathan of Elkins Park, PA; a son, Mark Weiner of Los Angeles CA.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Throughout her life she generously donated her time to a variety of charitable organizations. While in her 80s Ester learned to knit and created hundreds of hats and mittens for needy infants and children in the community through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Daughter of the late Hyman and Anna (Berg) Shutan, she was predeceased by her husband, Marshall Weiner, sister Muriel Davidoff and brother Nat Shutan. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Hamden Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the capable and loving care they gave to Ester during her stay there.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday at the Bikur Cholim - Sheveth Achim Cemetery, Brocket Place, East Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to donorschoose.org.
