Fanya Mayzlin

d. Jun 14, 2026

Fanya Mayzlin, beloved sister, aunt, and great aunt, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, in New Haven, Connecticut, at the age of 90. Born in Kiev, USSR, on October 4, 1935, to Evsey and Revekka Mayzlin, Fanya attended Moscow State University and taught history and English for more than 30 years. In 1990, she immigrated to New Haven, Connecticut, and continued her career in education as an ESL instructor and substitute teacher in the New Haven Schools. Fanya was devoted to her family, including her parents (of blessed memory); her brother, Isaac and sister-in-law, Nelya; her nephew and niece, David and Dina Mayzlin; her nephew-in-law, Aaron Cohen; and her grandnephew and grandniece, Ezra and Rose.

An active member of Beth Shalom Synagogue, Fanya was a lifelong learner, who especially enjoyed music classes at Southern Connecticut State University after her retirement. Fearless, energetic, and optimistic, Fanya embraced life with curiosity and conviction. She will be deeply missed. Donations in her memory may be made to the Music Department at Southern Connecticut State University or The Towers at Tower Lane.
