Helen Liveten

d. Jun 25, 2026

Helen Zaientz Liveten, 95, died on June 25 in Mill River, MA. Helen was happiest when she was elbow deep in garden soil with at least one yappy little dog by her side. She loved her family, her dogs, gardening and books; not necessarily in that order. Born in Meriden, Connecticut in 1930, she moved to New Haven when she married Norman G. Liveten in 1952. They were married for 58 years before his death in 2010. A graduate of Smith College, she achieved her Master of Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University and was the librarian for The Foote School in New Haven for 30 years. She was an active member of the New Haven Garden Flower Club and the New Haven and New Marlborough (MA) Historical Societies. Helen Liveten leaves behind a son, Andrew Liveten and a daughter, Sharon Liveten as well as her grandsons Peter and Mark and great-grandsons Charles and Henry. Services will be held on July 2nd at 11am at the Bnai Jacob Congregation Cemetery at 21 Jewel St., New Haven.
