Irma Kronick Evans, age 96, of Hamden, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023. Irma was born and raised in New Haven, the second daughter of Anna (Skolnick) Kronick and Louis B. Kronick. She was the loving wife of the late Alvin Evans, her high school sweetheart. One of five girls, Irma was predeceased by her sisters, Estelle Leventhal, Eleanor Greenberg, and Sondra Traurig.
Irma was devoted to her family and is survived by her children, Jonathan Evans ( Nancy Arum), Seth Evans (Kim Nelson), and Amy Sakowitz (Jeff). She is also survived by her beloved sister, Phyllis Medvedow. She leaves five loving grandsons, three great grandchildren, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Irma and her late husband Alvin were proud owners of Standard Paint and Wallpaper, a fixture in the New Haven business community that was founded by her late father. She managed the business office and was critical to the company's success and expansion. Prior to that, she was a substitute teacher in Cheshire, Connecticut, where the family resided for 10 years before moving to Orange. In her later years at Whitney Center in Hamden, she enjoyed rekindling friendships from her New Haven childhood, as well as making new friends.
She was known by family and friends as kind, quick-witted, and super-smart. An avid traveler and reader, Irma loved the theater and a good game of bridge or scrabble. She also loved her UConn Huskies, especially the women's basketball team, which she followed closely as an alumnus (1948), and as the wife of her super-fan husband, Alvie.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were private. Contributions in Irma's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association-alz.org. The Weller Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. New Haven was in charge of arrangements.
