Joan Lapides Wingate of Hamden passed away on September 11, 2008 at her home at the age of 83. Mrs. Wingate, the wife of the late Paul D. Wingate, was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1925. She graduated from Smith College with a BA in 1947.

Mrs.Wingate is survived by her three devoted children and spouses, Richard Wingate (Karen) of Westport, Randy Wingate (Tanya) of North Haven and Betsy Hausman (Joel) of Kentfield, CA. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Rachael, Nicholas, Jenna, Michael and David Wingate, and Alex and Jamie Hausman.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 14th. at 2 P.M. at the chapel at the Congregation Mishkan Israel Cemetery, Whalley Avenue in New Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, the Congregation Mishkan Israel, or to the charity of your choice.

Period of mourning will be private. Weller Funeral Home, 493 Whitney Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
