Judith R. Lichter, 85, beloved mother and grandmother, died Monday, August 1, 2016.  Recently of Deland, Florida, she was born May 15, 1931 in New Haven. Always passionate about the need to help children and animals, she spent her career as a kindergarten teacher in Cheshire, and also as a member of the Cheshire town council.  She retired to Florida, where she continued to be politically active and served several terms as a Volusia County council woman.  While there, she helped found the animal shelter in Edgewater, Florida.  She is survived by her daughter, Jane Leon, and her son, Henry Fishman, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 8, 2016 at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park, Jewell St., New Haven, CT. Donations can be made in her memory to the Edgewater Animal Shelter/ Pet Society, Inc., 605 Mango Tree Dr, Edgewater, FL 32132.
