Judith Spadola of 126 Bonniebrook Drive, Napa, CA, formerly of Woodbridge, CT died from complications from numerous medications used to try to treat 12 years of Fibromyalgia. Mrs. Spadola was born in New Haven, CT. Daughter of the late Attorney Joseph and Edith Perelmutter, she is survived by her loving husband Francis Spadola of Napa, a son Jeff Cleary and daughter-in-law Suzanne Passalacqua and two wonderful grandsons, Addison and Ben Cleary of Larkspur, CA. She was predeceased by a brother Joel Perelmutter.



After graduating from University of Virginia with a magna cum laude with a B.S. in English, she then went on to get her Masters from Wesleyan University. She led an active life as a teacher, athlete, and homemaker.  She taught English at Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT and at Amity Senior and Junior High Schools in Woodbridge, CT. She worked as an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University in Hamden. She was an avid tennis player, runner, swimmer and golfer. She ran the New York Marathon as well as numerous 12 mile road races. Swimming indoors at the Yale Payne Whitney Gymnasium and outdoors at the Woodbridge Country Club, she often completed 100 mile in the pool. Proud of her hole-in-one at Woodbridge Country Club, she also enjoyed working on her golf game, being a member of the CWGA, walking 54 holes on her 54th. birthday and winning the husband and wife club championship, one year at Woodbridge Country Club and two years at Silverado Country Club in Napa. Her most rewarding times came from her teaching, tutoring and good relationships with her students. She established a scholarship fund for excellance in writing to be given to one student at Amity High School each year. Besides her teaching and athletics, Mrs. Spadola worked as a docent at the British Art Museum in New Haven, did free lance writing and was a copyright writer for an advertising agency. She was known for her sense of humor and curiosity. She was brave throughout her long years of suffering.



Funeral service, period of mourning and interment in the B'nai Jacob Memorial Park, Wintergreen Ave., New Haven will be private.
