Libby Kasimer

d. Jul 24, 2026

Libby Kasimer, the last of her generation of the Kasimer Family, died in her sleep on the 4th of July 2026. She was 92.

Aunt Libby, as she was known to 4 generations of Kasimers, was born on December 15, 1933 in New Haven, CT. She graduated from Central Connecticut State College, where she starred as a three sport athlete in field hockey, basketball and softball. After graduation, she had a lengthy career teaching elementary schools in Newington and primarily in Danbury. She took leave from teaching to obtain a masters degree from the University of Michigan in library science with a certification as a media specialist which was then a new field. She then spearheaded an entirely new curriculum for Danbury elementary schools in media instruction until her retirement.

Libby was a woman of many and varied interests, all of which she pursued with enthusiasm and joy. She was an avid mahjong player who also taught the game and administered mahjong events. She had a wide group of friends with whom to enjoy gourmet dinners, theatre and music, and was a girl scout leader. One of her great loves was the UCONN women's basketball team, which she followed religiously while commenting how different the game was from the limited version she played in college.

Most of all, Libby was devoted to her family. She was Aunt to her five nieces and nephews Joe, Nancy, Bill, Amy and Tobie Kasimer; her great nieces and nephews Lauren Chavin, Susan Kasimer, Arthur Kasimer-Colon, Alex, Mitchell and Emma Scher and Nathan and Rachel Kasimer; and her great great nieces and nephews Eli and Aviya Chavin Elija and Maddie Kasimer-Colon, Sam Scher, Nehama and Hadassa Kasimer, and Marty Klein Libby was always the fun and non-judgmental aunt, ready to get ice cream even if we already had dessert or to find and help us bring home salamanders as pets much to our mothers consternation or to teach us how to bowl (she averaged around 180 in her league bowling days). She showed up for every wedding, bar/bas mitzvah, graduation and family event no matter how far away (including a wedding she drove to in Florida), and took family members on fun and educational trips.

Libby had a wide-ranging group of friends, often connected to her various interests. She had a friendship with her college roommate Jean which lasted over 70 years until her death. Her close friend the late Kay Santuro was a constant companion in her activities, life and family.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Fanny Kasimer and her brothers Phillip, Eli and Julius Kasimer.
