IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nelson Stanley
Winters
January 29, 1929 – October 18, 2011
Nelson S. Winters, 82, formerly of Hamden, passed away Tuesday October 18, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Myrna Blynder Winters. Born in New Haven, January 29, 1929, a son of the late Charles and Molly Wasserman Winters, Mr. Winters was active in the advertising-public relations field in the Greater New Haven area for more than 50 years. After serving as a police reporter and editor with the New Haven Journal-Courier and Hartford Courant in the 1940s and '50s, Winters joined a New Haven public relations firm in 1956 where he serviced several major accounts including the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Companies of New Haven and Hartford and The American Cancer Society. He then went on to become the advertising/public relations director for two national manufacturers in the area, Sero Shirtmakers and Lender's Bagel Bakery. After opening his own agency in Hamden he also served 23 years of editorial service with McGraw Hill's weekly international publication, Aviation Week & Space Technology. During the Korean War, he was a U.S. Army correspondent with the 45th Infantry Division in Korea. Despite the handicaps of printing a tabloid type newspaper in a combat zone, Mr. Winters managed to organize the only newspaper entirely published inside Korea during the war for which he received a commendation for his journalistic accomplishment. Nelson also served for over 40 years as Executive Secretary to the Connecticut Dental Laboratory Association (CDLA). A former Hamden resident, he is also past president of the Hamden Probus Club. Mr. Winters is a graduate of Hillhouse High School and The Junior College of Commerce, now Quinnipiac University. Besides his wife Myrna, he is also survived by their children Kyle Winters of Hamden and Lori Winters (Stephen) Milton of Mendon, MA, a brother Alfred D, Winters of Jacksonville, FL, and his two loving grandchildren, Brandon David Milton and Matthew Ryan Milton. Condolences may be mailed to 90 Miles Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492
