Sidney Hubelbank passed away Feb. 4, 2021 after a life of service to others. He was a kind and thoughtful man who helped his family and others. Even in his final years, he had a keen sense of humor. During World war II he served in the Army Air Corps in North America and Canada as part of the supply line for aircraft going to the war zone. During that time between duties, he enjoyed skiing the "old" way, climbing up the hill to ski down on wood skis. For many years after the war he was a partner in the architectural woodworking firm Eastern Woodworking located Connecticut. He was responsible for elegant interior installations in many Yale University and commercial buildings all over the New England. His love of quality wood working also lead him to be an officer of the American Architectural Association. This resulted in many memorable trips and memories. Additionally, he was a member and officer of the Lion's club for many years. His love of sailing off the coast of Southern New England started as teenager and continued for the rest of his life. Besides owning his own sail boats, he was an active member of the Amistad boat association. As part of the recreation of the wooden Spanish Schooner La Amistad, he made repairs and rebuilt parts from scratch. He loved this work and that it brought children who would not have had exposure to the sailing world on board a wooden ship. Mr Hubelbank received many awards, including those from the Lion's Club, the American Architectural Association, and Amistad. He is survived by his wife Marian Revitch Hubelbank, his son Mark Hubelbank and daughter-in-law Jeanne Hubelbank, grandson David Hubelbank and grandaughter-in-law Laura Hubelbank. He was brother to the late Diana Hubelbank, Hannah Jackson, Sophie Nadel, Beatrice Riback, Vivian Ruth and Arnold Hubelbank. At 100, Sidney was proud that he survived all the physicians who told him he wouldn't live long.
Funeral service will be private with interment in the Keser Israel Memorial Park, West Haven.
