Obituary

Wayne S. Markman, 62, of Cheshire, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the St. Raphael's Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital.  He is survived by his wife Irene, his daughter Karen Newburg and her husband Nate Newburg, his daughter Sara Markman, and his son Elliot Markman.  Wayne was born on January 29, 1952 to the late Harold and Eleanor Markman. He is also survived by his siblings Michael Markman and his wife Edith, Hillary Strackbein and her husband Jeff, and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces. Wayne will be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind, generous spirit. He loved to make people laugh. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and shared his love of sports with his son, Elliot. He loved a great meal, whether it was a clam pizza from Pepe's or a steak at Abe and Louie's after a Sox game. Wayne also loved all kinds of music and loved sharing it with his family. He especially enjoyed singing and dancing to embarrass his children. He took great joy in giving back to his community, especially at the Jewish Community Center and Hamden Hall Country Day School, where his two daughters graduated and his son is in ninth grade. Wayne was always "Mr. Fix-It."  He never found a gadget he couldn't fix and took great satisfaction in learning how things worked.  He was the owner of Markman TV in Hamden, CT for over 30 years and a leader in the National Electronics Service Dealers Association (NESDA), where he served in a variety of positions, including President, and was the recipient of multiple awards, including the Gerry M. McCann CET/CSM, EHF Memorial Award and two time recipient of the Richard Mildenberger Outstanding NESDA Officer Award.  As a tribute to his wit and oratory skills, he was repeatedly requested to serve as Master of Ceremonies at the NESDA Annual Awards Banquet.  Wayne also developed many Technical and Business Training Programs, which he presented at state and local conferences across the country, earning respect, admiration, and multiple honorary memberships, awards, and commendations from his peers.  In 2012, Wayne, CET/CSM/MST/CSR, was inducted into the Consumer Electronics Industry Hall of Fame.
